Do Hard Things

"Same sea. Same wind. Different man."

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. — 2 Timothy 1:7

You were built to grow through hard things — body, soul, and spirit. Not because suffering is good, but because difficulty met rather than avoided changes what you are capable of next. This study walks the whole road of one ordinary man — Peter, a fisherman with more failures on record than any other disciple — from the boat where he was called to the door only he could open. Twenty-four crossings. Every one of them load-bearing.

Who It’s For

For the man with something hard in front of him — a conversation he has been circling, a repair he has been avoiding, a calling he has been explaining away — and a failure behind him he fears disqualified him.

What You’ll Do

Twelve parts, one road. You will walk Peter’s whole story — storm, stepping out, failure, restoration, the open door — and learn how God built you, body, soul, and spirit, to grow through every crossing: faith expanding, mind strengthening, until your hard thing becomes a gift to others.

What the Road Builds

This study is built on one promise: doing hard things grows your faith. The pattern is plain — step out in faith, into the unknown. Make the hard choice. Own it with your community. Then live it out. Walk that pattern and watch what happens: your faith grows, because you begin to see the wins, the losses, and the lessons for what they really are — faith at work, and blessing. And your mind strengthens, because every hard thing you do builds the strength for the next one. That was Peter’s whole road. The storm in the boat came first — then the faith to step out of it. Hard and growing, hard and growing.

This is what the road builds in a man, tier by tier. Your spirit man grows — faith, hope, and love strengthened every time you step. Your soul prospers — mind, will, and emotions steadied by crossings survived — until “God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and of a sound mind” is something you have lived, not just read.

So if there is something hard in front of you — a conversation you have been circling, a repair you have been avoiding, a calling you have been explaining away — and even if there is a failure behind you that you fear disqualified you, Peter’s road says otherwise: the room that broke him is the room that certified him. Your hard thing is not in the way of your faith. It is the ground your faith is waiting to grow on. This study was made for you.

WHAT WE'LL WALK THROUGH

Twelve Parts, One Road

Every part follows Peter across real water and real ground — and hands you the same crossings in your own life. Short readings, honest word studies, a sixty-second practice for your body, and a few questions no one will grade.

Before part one — The Crossing sets the road, and carries the workbook that runs alongside all twelve parts.

1

The Man in the Boat

You'll meet the man Peter trusted — not another fisherman, but a teacher, a carpenter. Peter's curiosity, and his yes, set the course of his life. So will yours.

2

Fear in the Boat

You'll learn to stop reading storms as verdicts — even the ones that hit in the middle of obedience.

3

How You Were Built

You'll meet your alarm, your checkpoint, and your brake line — and learn why fear firing first is equipment, not a character flaw.

4

Spirit, Soul, and Body

You'll learn how a word becomes a heart word — and choose the one you will carry for the rest of the course.

5

A Word for the Struggle (Optional)

A gated room for the battle you may be fighting alone. Enter if you are ready; skip freely if you are not. Skipping is not failure here.

6

Faith Out of the Boat

You'll learn the difference between asking for permission and asking for a command — and what actually kept Peter on top of the water.

7

The Hardest Thing Is Standing Still

You'll face the crossing that requires no action at all: letting yourself be served. A man who cannot be served cannot be forgiven.

8

Sifted

You'll learn what separated Peter from Judas — and why staying in the room is where restoration begins.

9

The Charcoal Fire

You'll stand at the two fires — the courtyard and the beach — and learn why restoration returns to the place of the wound instead of routing around it.

10

What the Fear Was For

You'll see standing up for what it really is — not courage summoned in the moment, but something built crossing by crossing.

11

The Door

You'll discover what all this formation is for — and whose door your hardest crossing opens.

12

Your Hard Thing

You'll leave with the full map of Peter's twenty-four crossings — and a clear first step onto your own road.

Your Hard Thing Is Waiting

So is what it will build. The road does not require you to feel ready — that has never once been the requirement. It only asks you not to leave the room.
ABOUT THIS STUDY

Ancient Path Biblical Coaching

Do Hard Things is a study from Ancient Path Biblical Coaching, built for men walking real formation in real life. It joins the Hebraic depth of our word studies with the plain-language science of how God built your body, in the same voice as Known by Jesus and Walk With Me: honest about what the text establishes, honest about what it doesn't, and always aimed at the man in the middle of his own hard thing.

Some Roads Are Better Walked With Other Men

The Ancient Path 12-week cohort takes the formation in this study to the table — eight men, two facilitators, confidential — where hard things are named out loud and carried in company.
